A: No. You should plug the USB phone directly into one of your computer's USB ports.
Many USB devices don't work well on hubs (especially unpowered hubs), for two reasons:
- When multiple devices are connected through a hub and working in parallel (for example, a USB phone and a USB flash drive and a mouse), then the USB bandwidth is shared among the devices. The hub's hardware can't handle the transactions of several devices as quickly as a device connected directly to the host.
- An unpowered USB hub supplies only 100 mA on each port. Some USB phones require the full 120 mA normally provided by a direct USB connection. Using an unpowered USB hub can cause distorted audio and other problems with the phone/adapter, here is an example:
If you are experiencing this type of distorted audio with your USB phone, make sure it is connected directly to computer's USB port, or through a powered USB hub (a hub with it's own ac power adapter).
There have been rare reports of some models of laptop PCs with underpowered USB ports. This would require attaching USB devices that require more "juice" through a self-powered USB hub(a hub with its own AC adapter).
