The B2K Skype Adapter is set by default to look for a landline dial tone before making a call. The manufacturer assumes that most people will use the same telephone for both Skype and landline calls, and when people pick up the phone, there is a greater chance that the call being made is a landline(PSTN / POTS) call rather than a Skype call.
But you can set the Skype Adapter to work without being connected to a regular(PSTN/ POTS) phone line.
Windows Users:
- Right-click the SkypeMate icon(green cloud with telephone) in the System Toolbar (lower right of desktop, near the clock).

- Click on “Advanced” in Skypemate.
- Switch the "adaptor default channel" from "PSTN” to “USB”.
Now you can use the Skype Adapter without a land-line (PSTN) connection.
