Landline Calling Mode and Skype Calling Mode

With your landline connected to the USB-RJ11 Adapter, you can make and receive regular phone calls as you normally would. The USB-RJ11 Adapter is set by default to landline calling mode. When you pick up the phone, you will hear the landline dial tone.

The phone will ring for incoming landline and Skype calls, just pick up the phone to answer as you normally would.

To switch to Skype calling mode, press *. You will hear a different dial tone. You can then dial a SkypeOut phone number or speed-dial a Skype contact from the phone's keypad (see details below).

Press * to switch between landline and Skype calling mode.

You can dial any of your Skype Contacts directly from the phone's keypad using a Speed-Dial key sequence.

First, in Skype, right click on a Skype contact and select "Set Speed Dial". Enter any two digit number as that contact's Speed-Dial code, for example, "11". Then when you want to call this contact, enter the speed-dial code on the phone's keypad and press # key to place the call.

For example, dial: 11 #

Just assign a different two-digit Speed-Dial code for each Skype contact you will want to call from the phone keypad.

Windows/Skype Audio Settings for USB-RJ11 Adapter

Left to its own devices, Windows will normally choose the last USB audio device you plugged into your computer as the default audio device for your whole system.  But you may want to use your USB phone for Skype audio only, while using your computer's speakers for music and other non-skype audio.

We recommend specifically selecting the USB device(phone, adapter, headset) you want to use for Skype conversations, separate from your default Windows audio device(typically your sound card):

  1. In Windows --> Control Panel --> Sounds and Audio Devices --> Audio --> Sound playback, select your sound card as Default device.

  2. In Skype --> Tools --> Options --> Sound Devices, select "USB Audio Device" for Audio in and Audio out.

SkypeMate

SkypeMate is the Windows driver for the USB-RJ11 Adapter. It must be installed and running to allow the keypad work with Skype. The Skypemate icon in System Tray will show its status:

  • skype ok idle Green- Connected and running properly.

  • SkypeMate Volume Controlskype ok no device Red- USB-RJ11 Adapter is not connected properly. Unplug and reconnect USB cable. Also make sure the unit is connected directly to a USB port on your computer- do not connect through an unpowered USB hub.

  • no skype idle Grayed out - Make sure Skype is running. If Skype is running and you still see the gray icon, see Allowing SkypeMate Access to Skype.

You can adjust the speaker and microphone settings of the phone in SkypeMate's control window. Double click the skype ok idle icon in system tray to bring the control window into view.

FAQ

Can I use the Adapter without a landine connection?

Yes, you can use the Adapter without connecting it to a landline. This is useful if you don't have a landline but want to use a regular phone to make and receive Skype calls. See Advanced Settings for instuctions. When you use Adapter for Skype calling only, you won't need to press * to switch calling modes, you will be in Skype mode when you pick up the phone.

Can I use a key other than * to switch between Landline and Skype mode?

If your landline requires using the * (star) key for other functions, you can change the key used by the adapter to avoid a conflict. See SkypeMate Custom.ini for instructions.
